Moving Tips
Before Your Move
Declutter and Purge
Get rid of unnecessary items to reduce the number of things you have to pack and move. If you have broken furniture or other large/heavy items, please label and let movers know and they will discard them for you on moving day.
Start Early
Begin packing non-essential items as early as possible to avoid a stressful last-minute rush.
Gather Supplies
Use your packing supplies, including boxes, packing tape, markers, and cushioning like towels or old clothes.
Pack by Room
Keep items from the same rooms together in their boxes to make unpacking easier.
As a rule of thumb, the heavier the contents, the smaller the box should be! Instead of packing the largest box with the heaviest items, pack them in small boxes instead
Please be sure to pack your valuables and medications separately as you will be responsible for moving these items as we will not be responsible to replace those items.
Pack your perishable last. Any refrigerated or frozen should be packed on day of move, after the movers arrive, to assure items do not spoil.
Label Boxes Clearly
Label each box with its contents and the room it belongs in at the new apartment.
Handle Fragile Items Carefully
Wrap dishes and other delicate items in bubble wrap or use soft clothes as padding, and don’t overpack boxes with heavy items.
On Moving Day
Do a Final Sweep:
Before leaving, do one last check of all rooms, closets, and cabinets to make sure you haven’t left anything behind. Please be sure all trash has been discarded by yourselves and/or movers.
What should I do with Boxes after unpacking:
- Break down (flatten) all boxes before discarding.
- Place flattened boxes in the designated dumpster or recycling area.
- Do not leave boxes in hallways or stairwells.
- Bundle or tie large stacks for easier handling if needed.
